It looks like the succulent craze isn’t slowing down. If anything, succulent artistry is getting more detailed and fun varietals are finally getting the spotlight. When creating succulent landscapes or small succulent gardens, a mixture of colors and textures help elevate the design. My favorite hardy and versatile succulent right now is a ground cover called Sedum and there are a TON of varieties! Sedum is also known as stonecrops, as they favor harsh low water environments and often grow on or around rocks. Any plant that is hard to kill is the perfect plant for me.
I first noticed yellow sedum in a holiday succulent display in Old Town, San Diego. I went on a sedum hunt and found a huge variety at my local nursery. Sedum comes in different shades of reds, greens and yellows and the textures are quite varying from shallow bunches to leafy spreading cover.
I’m really into the yellowy greens right now as I think they make succulent groupings pop with color. Here’s some that I have found locally – Sedum Gold & Sedum Sexangular (which will bloom bright yellow flowers). I know the weather has been whacky this year across the United States, but Sedum typically flowers in the spring, which is an extra-added bonus!
