As she will have lots of projects to work on, having a reliable printer to print out her best work is so important. She also has a very small desk, which sadly has become a dumping ground for life&#8217;s &#8216;stuff&#8217; and she started doing her homework on the floor! This conversation helped guide us into redoing her desk from a complete mess to an organized, effective study zone. Just so you can see how scary things were, here&#8217;s a before picture of my daughter&#8217;s desk.\u00a0<strong data-redactor-tag=\"strong\">Eek!<\/strong>\u00a0Her desk had become a dumping ground for hair scrunchies and chapsticks. Neither which contribute to quality homework time!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.boredmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/messy-hero.png\" alt=\"\" data-verified=\"redactor\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After sifting through all the treasures, here is what we filtered the desk items down to in order of importance and use.<\/p>\n<h1><strong data-redactor-tag=\"strong\">How to Organize a Tight Study Zone<\/strong><\/h1>\n<h2><strong data-redactor-tag=\"strong\">Primary Work Space Tools<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In speaking my daughter, she said the most important tools for her study zone were here laptop and printer. We spaced these items out as much as possible to create balance, and to allow movement while working.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.boredmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/up-close.png\" alt=\"\" data-verified=\"redactor\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0NEW Limited Edition Walmart Exclusive printer\u00a0is super compact, so it&#8217;s a great fit on a small desk. It&#8217;s also a compact workhorse as the output tray minimizes space when closed, reduces jams, and holds 25 sheets when in use.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.boredmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/desk-hero2.png\" alt=\"\" data-verified=\"redactor\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><strong data-redactor-tag=\"strong\">Writing &amp; Manual Tools<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Some key tools that will remain on the desk as they are used daily versus monthly included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pencils<\/li>\n<li>Room for school notebook so notes may be transcribed onto the laptop or integrated into a report.<\/li>\n<li>Pens<\/li>\n<li>Scissors<\/li>\n<li>Highlighters<\/li>\n<li>Ruler<\/li>\n<li>Calculator<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Having adequate power and plugs next to her desk was very important as she needs power for the printer, laptop, phone charger and smart-home tools, so we added a new accessible power strip.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.boredmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/upclose.png\" alt=\"\" data-verified=\"redactor\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><strong data-redactor-tag=\"strong\">Things NOT to Have On The Desk<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>We decided to park items such as sticky notes, day planners, small paper pads, specialty pens not used very often and other small notebooks in her side drawer. These are things that are used, but just not on a daily basis so it was important they did not take up valuable desk space. Printer paper, large notebooks and reference books went below in the storage cabinet.
