{"id":4933,"date":"2017-10-13T20:29:50","date_gmt":"2017-10-13T20:29:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.boredmom.com\/?p=4933"},"modified":"2017-10-14T16:32:11","modified_gmt":"2017-10-14T16:32:11","slug":"even-small-amounts-fruit-vegetables-beneficial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stage.boredmom.com\/?p=4933","title":{"rendered":"Even small amounts of fruit and vegetables are beneficial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new study\u2014the first of its kind\u2014explains how even moderate intake of fruit, vegetables and legumes may lower a person\u2019s risk of heart disease and death.<\/p>\n<p>This is good news for those who think they can\u2019t afford (or like) to get the recommended amount of fruits, veggies and legumes every day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrevious research, and many dietary guidelines in North America and Europe recommended daily intake of these foods ranging from 400 to 800 grams per day, but this is unaffordable for many people in low to middle-income countries,\u201d said study investigator Dr Andrew Mente, PhD, from the Population Health Research Institute, McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada. \u201cOur findings indicate that optimal health benefits can be achieved with a more modest level of consumption, an approach that is likely to be much more affordable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Researchers looked at the diets of those living in 18 countries and across seven geographic regions. They concluded people eating 3 to 4 servings per day of fruits, vegetables and legumes was just as beneficial on their health as those with higher intakes.
